The West Baton Rouge Museum is pleased to announce a solo show of original paintings and modern myths by Louisiana Creole artist, Jonathan “radbwa faroush” Mayers, entitled radbwa ê tiré tik-layé (Opossum pulling off the ticks). The artwork, which explores the rich intersection of cultural heritage, language, and visual storytelling, will be on display through October 12, 2025.

Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Mayers has dedicated himself to reconnecting with his Creole roots, particularly focusing on the endangered Kouri-Vini (Louisiana Creole) and Louisiana French languages. His nickname, “radbwa faroush,” means feral opossum in Kouri-Vini.  Much of Mayers’ art expresses environmental themes and the survival of southern Louisiana landscapes.

Mayers is represented by Arthur Roger Gallery in New Orleans. He is currently a Doctoral Fellow of Francophone Studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he investigates the impact of literature, visual art, and social media on the Kouri-Vini language revitalization movement.
