Happy Birthday USA!
Registration opens March 1, 2026 for West Baton Rouge Museum’s 31st annual “Blast from the Past” summer history camp series. Camp is open for children ages 6-12 interested in taking an adventure through time to learn about our nation’s history.
This year’s theme, “Happy Birthday USA!” is inspired by America 250 and will feature a star-spangled red, white, and blue celebration. Museum staff, visiting artists, and other special guests will lead participants through a series of activities focused on milestone moments such as the signing of the Declaration of Independence (1776), the first Fourth of July celebrtion (1777), sewing flags in the fashion of the Betsy Ross story, baking apple pies, playing baseball and so much more! Campers will time travel from 1776 to 2026 hitting highlights along the way that make us the nation we have grown to be today. In addition to traditional pastimes and tours offered at Blast from the Past, campers will sign their John Hancock’s with feather quill and ink, make tri-corner hats, and march through history while engaging in arts and music activities, games, storytelling, old-fashioned chores, and cooking demonstrations.
Blast from the Past will be offered for two 1-week sessions in June. Dates are June 22 -26, 2026 and June 29 – July 3, 2026. Camper drop off is from 8:00 AM-8:30 AM, with pick up from 3:00 PM-3:30 PM. Campers will need to bring a bag lunch. Snacks and drinks will be provided daily. Space is limited. Advanced, paid registration is required, and reservations are taken on a first come, first paid basis.
