Join the Museum staff on Sunday, December 4th, 2022 from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM for our annual Holiday Open House . Come out and help us celebrate the season with some of our favorite traditional activities plus a few extra treats.
As always, the Museum will be decorated for the holiday season with a beautiful Christmas tree that makes for a lovely backdrop for photographs. All around campus, guests will be able to “Find the Elves” on a scavenger hunt adventure and enjoy some favorite annual festivities. There will be woodworking and blacksmithing demonstrations, an ornament making activity, a visit from Père Noël, gingerbread, cider, and much more! Musical guests rocking around the Christmas tree in the main building will be the West Baton Rouge Oasis Jazz Band, the museum’s own Blues After School program which is sponsored in part by the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation, and Rockin” Mozart Music Academy. Inside the museum’s Juke Joint, there will be holiday Blues and Jazz performances by Ashley Orlando & Peter Simon. Additionally, the West Baton Rouge Museum’s gift shop will be stocked with unique handmade items, and there will be several vendors on site with pop-up Christmas shops for all of your holiday shopping needs.
Historic buildings will be open for complementary tours, and annual tableau performances will take place in the historic 1830 Aillet House. There will be multiple opportunities to catch this theatrical 10-minute show. Also, be sure to visit the museum’s gallery spaces to see exhibits including Billie Holiday at Sugar Hill: Photographs by Jerry Dantzic organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service in collaboration with the Jerry Dantzic Archives.
This program is FREE, open to the public, and welcoming of all ages!
