Café Français 2023-10-01T11:00:00The West Baton Rouge Museum will host its monthly Café Français on October 1, 2023, as part of the museum’s SugarFest, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM instead of its regularly scheduled time.
The Café Français is normally held the first Friday of the month, but for the month of October, this gathering will be part of Sugar Fest, the museum’s 28th annual celebration of the sugarcane harvest. Stop by “la tente française” for coffee, snacks, and French conversation, then take in the rest of the festival.

"The Original King Bee" Documentary Screening2023-10-12T12:00:00The Museum is pleased to host a Lunchtime Film Screening of “The Original King Bee Documentary.” This 90-minute film documents the life and career of Baton Rouge Blues legend, Slim Harpo in a story told by James “Slim Harpo” Moore via a 1968 interview with Susan Cassidy Clark in NYC. Also featured are the voices of Harpo’s wife Lovell, his stepson, William Gambler, and his original King Bee band mates, James Johnson, Rudy Richard and Jesse Kinchen.

Please join us, in partnership with the West Baton Rouge Parish Library, for our annual “Merry-Not-Scary Halloween.” This event will take place on Friday, October 20, 2023, from 6 -8 PM on the grounds of the West Baton Rouge Museum.
Put your best costume forward and prepare yourself for tricks, treats, and fun! Starting at 6 PM, trick-or-treaters can meet a fortune teller, go on a scavenger hunt, play games, and more. This year we are bringing back some of our favorites like the pumpkin patch and the spoon and eyeball race! Please don’t forget to bring your favorite Halloween containers or bags for treats!

Children’s Drawing and Painting with Ms. Shaun2023-10-28T10:30:00The Museum is pleased to introduce a new monthly children’s workshop designed for elementary and middle school students. This workshop will be led by Shauna Landry, a Louisiana native who has over eight years of experience working with children in art. The workshop will be held on the fourth Saturday of each month and the pilot program is offered FREE of charge. All art supplies are provided but space is limited and advanced registration is required. To register, please contact the Museum.

This year’s event will feature guest speaker, Wendy Rodrigue, widow of the late artist George Rodrigue.
This talk will take place at the West Baton Rouge Museum and will accompany the closing of The River is the Road: Paintings by George Rodrigue. A reception hosted by the Historical Association’s Hospitality Committee will follow the presentation.
The Ethel Claiborne Dameron Lecture Series is free and open to the public. This event is offered annually in memory of West Baton Rouge Historical Association and West Baton Rouge Museum founder, Ethel Claiborne Dameron affectionately known as “Puffy.”
